We started Baltimore Trips in 2015 with a two-vehicle fleet, a landline, and one commitment: Baltimore weddings, tailgates, and corporate groups deserved a charter operator that actually lived in Baltimore. How Baltimore Trips started (and why it stayed local)

Baltimore Trips was founded in 2015 by a Maryland transportation operator who had spent the previous decade running charter fleets for weddings, funerals, and corporate offsites across the Mid-Atlantic. The pattern was always the same: Baltimore-area clients would call a big regional charter company, get quoted a fair price, and then the day of the event a bus would arrive with a driver who had never worked a Baltimore wedding before, didn't know where the Federal Hill pickup pocket was, and had to be walked through the tailgate lot on the phone.

The pitch behind Baltimore Trips was straightforward. Own the fleet — not broker it. Hire chauffeurs who live here — not send whichever contract driver was closest to the yard that morning. Answer the phone in Baltimore — not in a national call-center queue that closes at 5 p.m. Eastern. That was the founding thesis in 2015. It's still the thesis in 2026.

Baltimore Trips operates as a subsidiary of Stretch LLC, the same parent company that runs sister operations in Philadelphia and nationwide charter routing. Being part of a larger group is how we can offer overflow capacity for a 12-bus Preakness weekend or a 400-guest Naval Academy commissioning shuttle — we can pull equipment from the Stretch LLC family without ever handing the account off to a broker. A charter bus company is only as reliable as the people who never appear on the invoice. Ours are the ones you don't see. A full-time dispatch team in the Baltimore office, running the board seven days a week from before sunrise until well after the last airport shuttle checks in. What we haul — and who books us for it

Baltimore Trips isn't a one-vehicle-type operator. We run a mixed fleet so we can right-size the vehicle to the trip instead of forcing a 56-passenger motor coach into a job that a 14-passenger Sprinter would do better. Here's what the reservations board actually looks like in a typical peak week.

• Weddings — guest shuttles from downtown hotels to waterfront ceremony sites, bridal-party stretch limos, late-night "get everyone home safely" loops. We run wedding shuttles at venues across Baltimore, Annapolis, the Eastern Shore, and the Chesapeake, with regular pickups at Cylburn Arboretum, Gramercy Mansion, Cloisters Castle, Belmont Manor, Rockland Manor, and every waterfront estate in between. Weddings are the single largest chunk of our summer calendar.
• Ravens home games — every home game, every season, since 2015. Party-bus tailgates dropping into Lot J with fully-stocked coolers and premium sound, plus sober-ride pickup loops that get every guest back to Fell's Point, Canton, or Federal Hill without a rideshare surge fight in the parking lot.

Fleet philosophy: right-sized, well-maintained, DOT-clean

A charter fleet works when the vehicle matches the job. It fails — expensively, publicly, and in front of your wedding party — when it doesn't. Our fleet is intentionally mixed:

• Motor coaches (40–56 passengers) — the workhorse of long-haul and multi-bus corporate events. Under-coach luggage bays, reclining seats, onboard restroom, DVD and Wi-Fi options. This is the vehicle that runs a 200-guest Ocean City wedding shuttle or a Baltimore-to-Nashville youth-group trip.
• Mini-coaches (24–32 passengers) — mid-size weddings, sports-team travel, corporate shuttles. Critically, the mini-coach navigates Fell's Point, Federal Hill, and Mount Vernon streets that a full 45-foot motor coach physically cannot fit down. If your venue is anywhere inside the historic Baltimore street grid, this is often the correct answer.
• Party buses (20–40 passengers) — Fell's Point + Federal Hill nightlife, Preakness day, bachelor and bachelorette weekends, birthday runs. Premium sound systems, LED lighting, cooler bars, wraparound seating.
• Stretch limos and Hummer H2 stretches (6–20 passengers) — bridal parties, prom singles and doubles, VIP group transport, executive airport work. Classic Lincoln stretch and 20-passenger H2 stretch options, all chauffeured.
• Sprinter vans (10–14 passengers) — small-group BWI transfers, wedding-shuttle overflow, executive corporate work. Executive-trim leather seating, quiet ride, easy to stage curbside where a coach would block traffic.

Vehicle maintenance runs on a schedule that's tighter than the federal minimum. Every unit gets a full pre-trip walk-around before it leaves the yard, DOT annual inspections on the FMCSA-mandated cadence, brake and tire audits on our own internal schedule (which is more frequent than DOT requires), and a full wash and interior detail between every retail run. When a coach comes back from a wedding at 1 a.m. with cake on the seats, it goes into the wash bay before it goes back on the board for the next day.

Wheelchair-accessible options are available on request. Not every unit in the fleet is lift-equipped, so ADA-accommodating trips need to be flagged at quote time so we can assign an appropriate vehicle. We ask the question up front on our quote form for exactly this reason.

Chauffeur standards — what we require before someone drives our clients

Every Baltimore Trips chauffeur, without exception, holds:

• Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B minimum, with passenger (P) endorsement and air-brake certification. For our 56-passenger coaches, CDL Class B with P endorsement is federally mandatory. We don't waive it.
• Current DOT medical card — the federal physical that every commercial passenger-vehicle driver must renew.
• Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening, plus random testing throughout employment and post-incident testing after any reportable event, per FMCSA Part 382 rules.
• Multi-state background check covering criminal history, driving record, and prior commercial-vehicle employment.
• Maryland Public Service Commission operator credential where required for intrastate passenger-carrier work.
• Defensive-driving and customer-service training before ever taking a solo dispatch, plus on-going ride-along evaluations with senior chauffeurs.
• Uniform standards — dark suit or company-approved chauffeur attire for corporate, wedding, and executive work. Clean, pressed, and professional. Same for airport work.

What that means in practice: the person driving your 200-guest wedding shuttle has been federally screened, medically cleared, drug-tested, background-checked, and trained specifically to work retail passenger events. It is not a "someone from the driver pool showed up" system. It is a named-chauffeur, assigned-account system.

Licensing, insurance, and compliance

Baltimore Trips maintains active operating authority under both Maryland state and U.S. federal passenger-carrier regulations:

• Maryland Public Service Commission passenger-carrier permit — required for intrastate for-hire passenger transport in Maryland, with the corresponding minimum-insurance filings on record with the Commission.
• U.S. DOT registration and FMCSA operating authority for interstate charter work. Our DOT number is visible on every vehicle in the fleet.
• MCS-90 endorsement on our commercial passenger liability policy, satisfying federal financial-responsibility requirements for interstate passenger carriers.
• Commercial passenger liability insurance at limits that meet or exceed the federal minimum for 15-passenger-and-above vehicles. Certificates of insurance are issued on request for corporate, school, and venue-contract clients — usually the same business day.
• Workers' compensation coverage for chauffeurs and yard staff.
• Drug and alcohol testing program compliant with FMCSA Part 382, administered by a third-party consortium with random-selection auditing.
• Hours-of-service compliance — every chauffeur's on-duty and driving hours are tracked, and we don't dispatch drivers who are approaching the 10-hour or 15-hour federal limits. Long-haul trips are staffed with a relief driver when the route demands it.
• Vehicle maintenance records retained per federal record-keeping rules, available for FMCSA audit at any time.

The short version: we run this company the way the FMCSA and the Maryland PSC ask us to run it. That's not a marketing line — it's the reason venues, school districts, and corporate accounts renew with us year after year without re-auditing our compliance file.

Company timeline — 2015 to today

• 2015 — Baltimore Trips founded. Initial fleet: two vehicles, single dispatch line. First contracts: local wedding shuttles and Ravens tailgate charters.
• 2016–2017 — Fleet expansion into party buses and stretch limos to serve the Fell's Point / Federal Hill nightlife and prom markets. Corporate accounts begin.
• 2018–2019 — First 40+ passenger motor coach added to the fleet, opening up Ocean City runs, Eastern Shore group work, and cross-state long-haul. Naval Academy commissioning contracts begin.
• 2020–2021 — Pandemic-era operations focused on essential-worker transport, socially-distanced small-group service, and continued funeral and medical-related work. Fleet retained; drivers retained.

How our pricing works — no surprises at the end

The Baltimore charter industry has a not-great tradition of quoting a base rate, then piling on fuel surcharges, tolls, chauffeur gratuity, insurance surcharges, luggage fees, and after-hours premiums at the invoice stage. That's not how we quote.

Every Baltimore Trips quote is all-inclusive at the number we send you:

• Fuel is priced in. We don't add a "fuel surcharge" three days before your event.
• Tolls for the routed trip are priced in. Ocean City runs cross the Bay Bridge — that toll is in your quote already.
• Chauffeur gratuity on hourly-priced work is priced in at industry-standard percentage. You are welcome to tip additionally on-site if you choose, but you are not obligated to.
• Insurance surcharges — none. Insurance is the cost of running a legal charter company; it doesn't belong on the invoice as a line item.
• Luggage handling — priced in.
• Standard event-day parking or staging fees — priced in where we know them in advance. If a venue imposes a bus fee we couldn't know about at quote time, we tell you before we invoice.

The only things that can change your final invoice after the fact are (1) you kept the vehicle longer than the reserved window (overtime), (2) you added a stop or route change on the day of the event, or (3) there was material damage to the vehicle. Every one of these is disclosed in the reservation agreement up front.

Deposits are standard: a percentage of total charter at reservation to lock the vehicle, balance due before dispatch. Corporate accounts with net-30 or net-45 terms can be established with a signed corporate agreement and W-9 exchange. We accept credit cards, ACH, and corporate check.

Frequently asked

How far in advance should I book? Peak events — Preakness weekend, prom season, Ravens playoff games, Naval Academy commissioning, wedding season — book out months in advance. Preakness weekend regularly sells out our fleet by January. Wedding shuttles for peak Saturdays (May, June, September, October) fill 4–8 months out. Corporate and airport work can typically be booked with a week's notice, and short-notice quotes (24–72 hours) are honored when we have equipment available.

Do you provide certificates of insurance? Yes — corporate, school, and venue-contract clients receive a certificate of insurance naming their organization as required. Turnaround is typically same business day.

Are your vehicles ADA-accessible? Wheelchair-accessible options are available on request. Flag ADA needs at quote time so we can assign an appropriately equipped vehicle.

Can I bring alcohol on a party bus? Yes, on party-bus and stretch-limo bookings for guests of legal drinking age. Alcohol is not permitted on motor-coach and mini-coach charters for school, church, or corporate accounts unless explicitly authorized in the reservation agreement.

What if my group size changes? Notify your reservations rep as soon as you know. We can often up- or down-size the vehicle assignment up to about 72 hours before the event without a rebooking fee.

Do you run one-way or airport transfers? Yes — BWI, DCA, IAD, and PHL airport transfers are a regular part of our board, in every vehicle class from Sprinter van up to motor coach.
