About Naval Academy Commissioning Week Transportation Annapolis
Commissioning Week at USNA is typically a five-day stretch in mid-to-late May, but the exact 2026 day-by-day schedule should be confirmed against the official USNA schedule because it changes by year; the academy’s posted schedule for 2026 includes graduation-day access limits and a separate events calendar.
For the core week events, USNA and Annapolis postings confirm the sequence typically includes a Blue Angels flight demonstration/rehearsal, Color Parade, Ring Dance, Baccalaureate, and the Commissioning ceremony, but the precise date/time for each event in a given year is not publicly documented in a single complete summary page.
Parking on USNA grounds is highly restricted during Commissioning Week. USNA states that vehicular access is limited to authorized personnel, and that Gate 1 has daily vehicle entry hours while Gate 8 is 24/7 for authorized vehicles only. USNA also notes that DBIDS card holders are not allowed to drive on the Naval Academy during the Commissioning Week Monday-through-Thursday period from 0600 to 1800 because of limited space.
For visitors, Annapolis guidance says the best option is usually to park at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium and take the free shuttle into downtown or to the Academy, because downtown parking is limited and enforcement is strict. USNA’s Commissioning Week parking information says stadium parking is provided, with no overnight parking, and graduation-day parking is first-come, first-served for ticketed guests.
On the motor-coach side, the publicly documented access points are Gate 1 and Gate 8, but detailed coach drop-off procedures for Commissioning Week are not clearly published in the material reviewed and are therefore not publicly documented. USNA does publish that Gate 1 is the visitor-center entry point in some Commissioning Week guidance, while Gate 8 is used for restricted access to Worden Field at certain event times.
For group hotel blocks in Annapolis and near BWI, specific public block inventories are not publicly documented in the official event materials reviewed. Annapolis public notices instead emphasize that downtown hotels and garages fill quickly and that visitors should reserve parking in advance where available.
Why USNA Families Book Us for Annapolis Events
The Naval Academy runs on military time and military logistics — if you are told the family reception starts at 1300, you had better be through the Gate 1 security check by 1245 or you will spend the ceremony in the visitor line, not the ceremony. Annapolis parking on Commissioning Week and Plebe Parent Weekend is functionally impossible. The city has fewer than 3,000 downtown parking spaces and USNA events routinely draw 30,000+ visitors.
Baltimore Trips has been the go-to family-group transportation for USNA events since 2015. Our drivers have current Naval Academy vehicle-access credentials and know the difference between Gate 1, Gate 3, and Gate 8 without a map. We run the same 20-minute coach-holds at Halsey Field House year after year because the USNA coordinator knows our vehicles and drivers by name.
Every USNA-event booking includes coordination with USNA Vehicle Access, family manifests, printed drop-off/pickup maps for each attendee, and a driver who understands that a 4-star admiral does not want to hear that the coach is late because of traffic.
USNA Grounds Access & Annapolis Logistics
Annapolis is 30 miles / 45 minutes from downtown Baltimore, and USNA has strict vehicle access rules. Motor coaches drop passengers at Gate 1 (main visitor entrance) or Gate 8 (King George Street) depending on the event, and passengers walk on with government-issued photo ID. We coordinate access permits with the USNA visitor coordinator in advance of every trip.
Parking in Annapolis on event days is nearly impossible — a shuttle from a BWI-area or Downtown Baltimore hotel block is the only realistic approach for large family groups.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I book transportation for United States Naval Academy?
For United States Naval Academy, we recommend booking 6 to 8 weeks out for weekend events. Peak-season Saturdays (April-June and September-November) book out 3 to 4 months in advance. Corporate weeknight and small-group weekday trips can often be booked same-week. For the true peak — Preakness weekend, Ravens home Sundays in September/October, USNA Commissioning Week — we recommend 4-6 months of lead time.
What is your cancellation policy?
Deposits are refundable if cancelled 14 or more days before the trip. Between 7 and 14 days, 50% of the deposit is held. Inside 7 days, the deposit is retained. Full-charter deposits (weddings, multi-day corporate blocks) may vary; the exact terms are always spelled out in the signed agreement before payment.
Are your drivers licensed and insured?
Every Baltimore Trips chauffeur holds a valid Maryland CDL with passenger endorsement, passes DOT drug and alcohol testing, and completes an annual background check. Every vehicle is DOT-registered under our MC number and covered by a $5,000,000 commercial auto liability policy plus additional passenger-injury coverage.
Can we bring alcohol on the vehicle?
Alcohol is allowed for passengers 21 and over on party buses and stretch limos, at the customer's discretion. Coolers are provided free of charge and the driver will stock them with ice on request. Alcohol is never allowed on school-group, prom, homecoming, or minor-group bookings — this is a firm policy, not a case-by-case call. Chauffeurs are always alcohol-free during and immediately before shifts.
Do you provide certificates of insurance to venues?
Yes. Many Baltimore-area venues (including United States Naval Academy and downtown hotel blocks) require a certificate of insurance ahead of arrival, often naming the venue as additional insured. We provide one free of charge — just forward us the venue's requirements when you book and we'll handle the paperwork.
Is gratuity included in the quote?
Gratuity is not included in the base quote. Industry standard is 18 to 20 percent of the base charter total, paid to the chauffeur directly at trip end or added to the final invoice on request. For extraordinary service (multi-day contracts, difficult logistics) many clients tip above 20 percent.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), ACH bank transfer, corporate check, and Zelle for smaller deposits. A signed booking agreement plus deposit locks the vehicle onto our calendar; the remaining balance is due 72 hours before pickup.
Do you offer package pricing for multi-vehicle bookings?
Yes. For United States Naval Academy groups needing more than one vehicle (very common for weddings, corporate events, and Preakness), we quote a combined package rate that is typically 8-15% less than the individual per-vehicle sum. Multi-day contracts get a further discount.
